WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp Web is WhatsApp in your computer's browser. The real one is at web.whatsapp.com: open it, then link it from your phone under Linked devices.

The real WhatsApp Web: WhatsApp Web only exists at one address. Check the address bar before you scan anything.

Open web.whatsapp.com

That link leaves this site. We are an independent guide and cannot sign you in, see your chats or reset your account.

Get started in a minute

  1. On your computer, open web.whatsapp.com. A QR code appears.

  2. On your phone, open WhatsApp and go to Linked devices: on Android it is under the three-dot menu, on iPhone under Settings.

  3. Tap Link a device (Link device on iPhone), confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN if asked, and point the phone at the QR code.

  4. Your chats load on the computer. From now on it works even when the phone is offline.

Stuck on a step? Scanning the QR code covers both phones in detail, and WhatsApp Web not working lists the fixes in order of likelihood.

Questions people ask

Is webonwhatsapp.com the official WhatsApp Web?

No. This is an independent guide. The official WhatsApp Web is at web.whatsapp.com and nowhere else. We cannot sign you in, and we never ask for a QR scan, a phone number or a verification code.

Is WhatsApp Web free?

Yes. WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp desktop apps are free and use the same account as your phone. You only need an internet connection on the computer.

Does my phone need to be online to use WhatsApp Web?

Only while you link the computer. After that WhatsApp Web works on its own, even when your phone is off. If your phone does not use WhatsApp for more than 14 days, linked devices are logged out.

Can I use WhatsApp Web without a phone at all?

No. A WhatsApp account is always registered on a phone, and a computer can only be added as a linked device from that phone.

How many computers can I link?

You can link up to four devices to one account, in addition to your phone. They can be browsers, the Windows or Mac app, tablets or a second phone.
